Learn to skate 1

Learn to Skate 1

Recommended for children born in 2021 & 2022, and 2020s new to skating. 


Duration

  • October 1 - February 25 
  • Two-week Christmas break 

Lesson Length

  • 45 minutes 

Schedule

  • Thursdays 
  • 5:10 PM – 5:55 PM

Learn to Skate 1 is designed for young children taking their first steps on the ice in a fun and supportive environment. Our experienced coaches help participants build strong skating fundamentals while developing confidence and a lifelong love of skating.


As a private Kingsville Skates program, we emphasize quality instruction, individual development, and helping families find the right pathway into hockey, figure skating, or recreational skating.


Our progressive curriculum makes learning fun while building the fundamental skills every skater needs.


Participants work on developing:

  • Standing up safely 
  • Balance and agility 
  • Forward skating 
  • Stopping 
  • Turning and control 
  • Backward skating 
  • Edge control 
  • Crossovers 
  • Confidence on the ice 
  • And much more 


Throughout the season, participants are evaluated as they develop, allowing coaches to monitor progress and guide each skater toward the next stage of their skating journey.

 

Equipment Required

Please bring:

  • CSA-approved hockey helmet (required) 
  • Hockey skates or figure skates 
  • Gloves or mittens 
  • Warm clothing suitable for skating 

Snow pants are optional.

Skate aids are not permitted, as they often slow proper skating development and can interfere with instruction.

Is Learn to Skate 1 Right for My Child?

This program is recommended for:

  • Children with little or no skating experience 
  • Future hockey players 
  • Future figure skaters 
  • Recreational skaters 
  • Families looking for professional skating instruction 

No previous skating experience is required.

Learn to Skate 2 is designed for youth who are ready to build on their skating fundamentals in a fun, supportive environment. Participants continue developing balance, control, edges, stopping, crossovers, backward skating, and confidence while progressing through our structured evaluation system. Our experienced coaches help prepare skaters for the next step, whether that's hockey, figure skating, or recreational skating.

Power Skating & Puck Control

Program Details

Kingsville Skates' Power Skating & Puck Control Program is designed for players looking to improve their game, this high-tempo program combines skating technique, edge control, puck handling, agility, and game-ready movement into every session.

Players train through progressive, skill-focused stations that build confidence, efficiency, and overall performance on the ice.

If your player is looking to continue developing throughout the fall, this program provides quality instruction in a positive and challenging environment.


Players will work on:

  • Power skating and stride development
  • Edge control and agility
  • Acceleration and speed
  • Balance and body control
  • Puck control and stickhandling
  • Turning, transitions, and crossovers
  • Game-ready skating skills

Program Details

  • 10-Week Fall Program
  • Registration Fee: $280 + HST

Power Skating & Puck Control 1 (2021-2019) *Advanced 2019s go to Level 2

  • Wednesdays, Oct. 7 - Dec. 9,  5:00pm - 5:50pm


Power Skating & Puck Control 2 (2018-2016) *Advanced 2016s go to Level 3

  • Wednesdays, Oct. 7 - Dec. 9,  6:00pm - 6:50pm


Power Skating & Puck Control 3 (2015 & Older)

  • Mondays, Oct. 12 - Dec. 14, 5:00pm - 5:50pm


Girls Power Skating & Puck Control (2019 - 2014)

  • Mondays, Oct. 12 - Dec. 14, 6:00pm - 6:50pm


Participants are grouped by age and skill level to provide the best possible learning experience while challenging every player to continue progressing throughout the season.
